National Junior College (NJC) is Singapore's first junior college. Established in 1969 with the aim of centralising the two-year pre-university course with maximum utilisation of specialist personnel and resources, Bukit Timah was chosen as it was considered to be a more centralised location that would be convenient for all students. Previously located at Linden Drive where Nanyang Girls High School now stands, its present campus at Hillcrest Road was opened in 1997 by then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. In the 1960s, education was provided by schools conducted in four different languages. By admitting students from all four streams, NJC pioneered the process of educational integration at post-secondary level. Today, NJC continues this tradition by maintaining no affiliation with any secondary school, thus ensuring that all students will have equal opportunity.
