Singapore's first temple for worshippers of Lord Vishnu (also known as Perumal). The temple was established in Serangoon Road in 1855, on land bought from the East India Company. The building has been renovated several times since, but one feature remains: a well dug in the early 1900s. The temple caters to the spiritual, social and cultural needs of Vishnu worshippers, and also to the larger Indian community. It has played a significant role as a starting point for the kavadi-carriers in the Thaipusam festival.
