Singapore’s first company of the Boys’ Brigade was formed on 12 January 1930 at Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church by James Milner Fraser. This was soon followed by the formation of more companies in other Christian churches. In 1936, there were six Boys’ Brigade companies in Singapore, and the Singapore Battalion was formed. By January 2000, the Boys’ Brigade had 70 companies with about 5000 members island-wide and is one of the oldest uniformed groups in Singapore. Its aims are the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends toward a true Christian Manliness. The members of the Boys’ Brigade hold regular meetings and activities that include drill, physical training, bible class and games.
