From the area west of the Clemenceau Bridge to Kim Seng Road, Robertson Quay is the site of many elaborate godowns and intricately designed shophouses built after 1880 using a fusion of Eastern and Western architectural styles. Named after Dr J Murray Robertson, a prominent Municipal Councillor, Robertson Quay was originally a swampland and was reclaimed in the mid-19th century after rapid growth in Singapore’s trade and population forced development along the river upstream.
Located off Mohamed Sultan Road and a few minutes drive from the Central Business District is the Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI), a non-profit organisation for the development and promotion of artistic printmaking and papermaking. An exciting venue showcasing and exhibiting fine art prints and other art works, the Singapore Tyler Print Institute also advances the education and interaction of artists and practitioners by hosting lectures and creative workshops.
