Constructed as an extension to Clemenceau Avenue in 1920, this bridge provided a direct link to the expanding Robertson Quay on the north bank. Simpler in design compared to most other bridges downriver, the concrete Clemenceau Bridge was named after French statesman Georges Clemenceau who visited Singapore in the same year.
