The Cannery

Marker Text:

The Cannery, built in 1891, was originally used by European engineering firm Riley, Hargreaves & Company as a rubber warehouse. The firm, which later merged with Howarth, Erskine & Company in 1912, took part in the construction of several bridges spanning across the Singapore River and the Fort Canning Lighthouse. Its present name, The Cannery, is a reflection of the many pineapple factories that used to be located in Clarke Quay during the 19th and 20th Centuries.
