This shop, Sim Huat, is a typical lelong (cheap goods) shop which sells almost everything from nails and threads to pots and pans. Run by a former Boh Beh Kang family, the shop tells the story of versatility. Mr. Ang's family used to run a workshop at Orchard Road dealing in wooden planks and charcoal, before the land was acquired by the government. Upon moving to Tanglin Halt in the 1970s, they had to change their business as charcoal production was not allowed in housing estates for health reasons. The shop started with hardware and over the years expanded its range of goods to cater to almost every single household need imaginable.
