As you walk along Yishun Ring Road, you would pass by this school, named after Ahmad bin Ibrahim,(1927-1962) one of Singapore’s early political leaders. Established in Sembawang Hills Estate in 1963, it was then known as Ahmad Ibrahim Integrated Secondary School, and was the second integrated government secondary school in Singapore where both Chinese and English streams were adopted. The first was Bukit Panjang Government High School, established in 1960.
The school later moved to Upper Thomson Road in the same year before moving to its current location in 1985. Today, the school is well-known as Singapore’s pilot school for the ‘Open Education Programme’ launched in 1967, where visually handicapped students study alongside mainstream students.
